This is the Balboa Island Improvement Association's guide to Balboa Island. This guide offers listings of accommodations, activities, activities, maps, and travel information. Hopefully, this guide shall assist our visitors in enjoying the best of what Balboa Island has to offer. About The balboa island improvement association

In 1918 the Balboa Island Improvement Association was started (and is still going strong). The BIIA was a strong motivating force in working with the City on bulkhead repair, ferry service, a sewer system, water, gas, electricity, paved streets and sidewalks, and street lighting.

Maintenance of: Street-end flower pots; Doggie Bag dispensers; flag pole, information sign and gardens near Main Bridge entrance; flags and potted flowers on Main Bridge plants & flowers at Fire Stateion, Post Office and Little Island Bridge entrance; holiday light display at south end of Marine Ave; advertising bulletin boards at Dad's Donuts & Coldwell Banker; distribution by members of the BIIA newsletter; ISLAND BRIDGE, greeting new residents of the island; awarding garden-of-the-month, and pot-of-the-month.

20-May 2012 Balboa Island Art Walk 9-5 am

This year's event will feature over 90 artists exhibiting original oil paintings, acrylics, watercolors, glass, ceramic, sculpture, jewelry and photography along the South Bayfront of Balboa Island.

The Balboa Island Artwalk is the premier showcase for talented local artists and marks the start of the Island's summer season. Celebrating its sixteenth anniversary, the Artwalk will take place on Sunday, May 20th, from 9am to 5pm along the South Bayfront Promenade of Balboa Island. Admission is free.

The Annual Balboa Island Parade has been a twenty year tradition. An Island tradition filled with Children on Bikes, Island Dogs, Decorated Golf Carts and Floats, Vintage Cars, Keystone Cops, Drill Teams, Marching Bands, Local Dignitaries and much more! It’s the Island Way of Welcoming Summer to ALL ! So come on down to Marine Avenue and join us for a special day with Family, Friends, and Fun Our bridge closes at 10:00 am , so get here early

30 - Aug 4 2012 Just Plein Fun Sunrise - Sunset "The Debra Huse Gallery is proud to presentthe seventh annual Just Plein Fun. Thirteen award-winning artists will paint scenes on beautiful Balboa Island, California from July 30th - Aug 4th while the public watches. This unique plein air invitational is a must-see and fun for the whole family!
4 Aug 2012 Brush Off Contest 4:00 - 6:00 PM On August 4th, there will be a "Brush Off" on Marine Avenue from 4-6 pm. Watch as the artists compete to capture the Island charm and enjoy live music while the artists paint. The show will open at 6:30 that evening with an artist reception and awards presentation at the Debra Huse Gallery.

A day that features eight of Balboa Island's beautiful homes, interior designs, and holiday decor. 11am to 4pm. Refreshments in some stores will be available and remember to check out Marine Avenue for your Holiday shopping.

Tickets are $25.00 and available at the following stores: Even Sisters, Island Home, Martha’s Bookstore, Persimmon Tree, and The Gift Box.

The Artwalk 2009 was a great success! Congratulations & thank you to all the artists who made it a wonderful show. We would like to invite you to join in again, & to invite new artists to participate in our Balboa Island Artwalk showcasing talented local artists, and highlighting music all along the promenade. Attendance is approx. 4000 with free admission.  

The show is held on Balboa Island’s South Bayfront Promenade from Marine Avenue (over a mile of art) to Pearl Avenue. Each artist will have a space 20ft by 3ft along the sea wall.   

This is a Fine Art Show. No Crafts. This is now a Juried Fine Art Show. You need to include one great photo representing your work. Painting, Sculpture, Pottery, Glass, Jewelry and Photography. If you are planning on displaying more than one type of art, include photo of each for consideration. You can only display your own artwork.  No sharing of displays. Artist must be present. 

Notification will be by mail early April.  If accepted, you will need to attend one mandatory meeting Monday, April 30th to get your space assignment and your official Artwalk T-shirt, postcard invitations, posters and city required tax forms.  The jury fee is $25 non-refundable. The entry fee is $150.  Which includes website page with photo of your work, contact info and link to your URL; 25 invitations, 10 posters to be put up as advertising in your area, & one Official Artwalk t-shirt. Your entry fee will be returned if you are not accepted.  

All Artists must have a resale tax #and must collect sales tax to remit to the state. This number is required on your entry form. Please visit www.boe.ca.gov to download the form for a sellers permit if you do not already have one. (This takes approx 2 weeks).  (Sales totaling over $1000. must have a Newport Beach City License. Contact Glen from the City of NB @ 644-3144 only regarding city license.)  

All artists are responsible for their own 20ft by 3ft professional display, which may include easels, a-frames, wall panels and small tables.  

We need volunteers! Volunteers get priority in space assignment. Please let us know if you can help with public relations, sponsorships, printing or hanging banners, graphic design, invitation and poster printing, flier copies, signage (for parking and pointing way to show), mandatory meeting assistance or errands.
